Summer is right around the corner, and the Texas sun is going to be blazing. While Austin is a great place to spend the season, offering plenty of things to do, it gets pretty warm in this part of the country and it’s important to stay protected from the sun’s rays. If you’re spending the summer in Austin, here are five ways to stay protected on a sunny summer day!
The sunshine is good for you, but UV rays are not. To stay protected, you will want to make sure you are wearing plenty of sunscreen. Look for a sunscreen that is rated at SPF 30 or higher.
Your eyes are especially vulnerable to the sun’s rays. To keep them safe, be sure to wear your polarized sunglasses when you go outdoors on a summer day.
Wear a Hat
Another article of clothing that can keep you safe from the sun is a hat. Long before they were fashion statements, hats were meant to keep the sun’s rays away from your face and eyes. A good ballcap (or any other type of hat that provides adequate shade) is always a great idea on a summer day!
Stick to the Shade
It’s always significantly cooler in the shade, which means less chance of a heat stroke. The shade also blocks most UV radiation, which means less chance of skin damage.
One of the most important things you can do to stay safe in hot weather is to stay hydrated. Make sure you bring a water bottle with you when you go outdoors, and drink from it often.
