4 Hot Cocoas to Keep You Warm

hot cocoaAs the cold winds descend from the north, there’s nothing quite like a cup of hot cocoa to warm the bones. Here are four hot cocoa ideas that we hope our 9500 residents in Austin, Texas, will enjoy.

White Hot Cocoa

While a creative hot cocoa beverage adds to the excitement, it can also be important to keep the recipe idea relatively simple. This one infuses cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and tops it off with whipped cream without making the beverage a major undertaking.

Combine a ¼-cup of half and half with 2/3-cup of white chocolate and ½-teaspoon of cinnamon in a pan. Heat and gently stir until the white chocolate melts completely. Stir in ½-teaspoon of vanilla and 1/8-teaspoon of nutmeg. Serve warm in a mug, top with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick.

Nutella and Peanut Butter Cocoa

Nothing quite goes as well as peanut butter with chocolate and this simple hot cocoa idea brings that favorite pair together for some taste bud smacking enjoyment.

Heat 4 cups of whole milk then add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, 2 tablespoons of Nutella and whisk until fully integrated. Pour into a mug, top with marshmallows and drizzle Nutella over it. Serve warm.

Pumpkin-Infused Hot Cocoa

It wouldn’t be cold weather seasons without pumpkin being included in everything from pie to warm beverages. This pumpkin-infused white hot cocoa drink keeps the tradition alive.

Place 4 cups of milk, 15 ounces of pumpkin puree, 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice in a stock pot. Using medium heat, bring to a simmer. Add 1 ¼-cups of white chocolate chips and bring to a slow boil. Once the chips are fully melted, serve in mugs topped with whipped cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Hazelnut Hot Cocoa

One of the more hip and straightforward hot cocoa beverages is a hazelnut-flavored recipe. Simply combine 4 cups of milk, 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder, ¼-cup of sugar, 6 tablespoons of hazelnut spread, ½-teaspoon of cinnamon, and ½-cup of Irish cream in a saucepan and heat. Once the ingredients are fully integrated, pour into a mug and top with whipped cream and chocolate flakes.
